The quote, which I should have mentioned in the first place, is adapted from the Amelia Peabody book series by Elizabeth Peters. In the novel The Mummy Case, the aforementioned character remarks "Marriage, in my view, should be a balanced stalemate between equal adversaries." I've always liked that.
