topazera: Aiba Masaki with his hands pressed to his lips in extreme excitement (Pride: She never fades away)

*thumbs up*

Okay, so, I've been watching a few new (to me, this one is from 2003 :D) dramas lately and taking some caps thinking I could just post them on Tumblr without any fuss... but then came the issue of how-spoilery-is-too-spoilery and then I just missed the ease of lj cuts! So, for your perusal if you so choose, a little spam of one of my current dramas:

Good Luck!!

Good Luck!! really has that feeling of being a classic drama to me. It takes a simple set-up, being a commercial jet pilot in this case, adds a number of conflicts and a steady romance, and sets off! While there's no doubt being a pilot is a pretty cool occupation, I love the straightforwardness of picking a profession and exploring all the interest that is to be had in it. I'm sure some people will find it cliché but all I get is delightful and comforting. :)

Shinkai Hajime, First Officer

Meet Shinkai, a co-pilot aiming to make captain who is full of passion for his work and for the sky! Ahaha, Kimutaku is just as charming as always. Seriously, every character I've seen him as is unified by his face being SUPER LIKABLE at all times. He's just so easy and natural and confident which totally works for Shinkai being an self-assured pilot. I completely picked this drama to fill my annual Kimutaku drama slot... so I think that says enough about my bias here. :)

Ogawa Ayumi, mechanic

Ogawa is a standout mechanic, both for her skill and the mere fact that she's a she in the male dominated field (which she chose for a very personal reason). Ogawa is basically perfect to me. She's a mechanic, she rides a motorcycle, people do not mess with her and she's played by Shibasaki Kou. I LOVE HER SO MUCH. It was her character description that pulled me to this show and she has been just as wonderful as she sounds. ♥ Shibasaki Kou is just so good at doing little things with her face that let you read her so well, even when she's just staring at someone. Ogawa is my favorite.

Koda Kazuki, Captain

As a hardass flight regulator, Koda's job is almost to come in conflict with our characters. I have become so endeared to this guy's impassive face. He such a perfect foil to the expressive Shinkai, so restrained and unmoved. And yet I am just as invested in his perspective and journey! I love when secondary characters are have just as much depth as the leads.

Togashi Noriko, cabin attendant

Our head cabin attendant, Togashi! What an absolutely lovely and amazingly strong lady! Seriously, I love her interactions with everyone and her smiles totally light up the room. I was not surprised to learn that this actress was once in Takarazuka Revue. Note to drama producers: please develop more lead characters for women in their forties!

And an otp is born! ♥♥ One of my favorite things about this show is that the otp is a case of like versus like. I've been watching so many dramas lately that are "opposites attract" and while that story is appealing too, I might appreciate this even more because it is less common. They're both such stubborn, hot-headed, forthright people and they like those things about each other. Their bickering is so evenly matched. ♥

Chemistry: you're doing it right.

THEY ARE ALSO VERY MATURE.♥♥

And they like that about each other a lot. Amusingly, I actually think they are pretty mature people who just think teasing is fun and sometimes tend towards rash decisions.

She grows so fond of his stupid face. :) It's nice to have a drama where the question isn't "when are these two people going to realize they like each other?" but rather "when are they going to get things together and actually date?".

For those who also like a touch of angst, they are also championship level gazers.

One of the things that Good Luck!! does the best is make all the relationships between the four main characters important in some way. They all have different dynamics but it's significant in some way that they met each other. As much as I'm all about a good OTP, I really appreciate when they spread the relationship development around like this.

This is pretty much emblematic of why I love these people. ♥

I was won over the second I saw the OTP making faces at one another. *adds to the GIANT LIST OF DOOM*

Yeah, I am such a sucker for that too! :P And I enjoy it when couples have fun together and it's generally accepted that they like each other. :D This was totally on my list due to both Kimutaku and Shibasaki Kou but I was still pleasantly surprised by how much liked it when I watched. :)

All of your points are true facts, yo. I enjoyed this one a lot, a lot, a lot! I think I watched it not long after Pride and was a little torn which I preferred. (I think Good Luck wound up winning, on the power of the added Kaname Jun quotient.)

[identity profile] topazera.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
Yay! I'm glad it has other fans! Oh man, I kind of can't imagine what would have happened to my heart if I had watched this soon after Pride. Since I watched that one by itself early in my drama career, Pride holds a special place in my heart. But Good Luck!! definitely recalled those wonderful feelings I had when I first watched Pride which is compliment enough in my book! :D :D

(lol, FAIR criteria for a decision!)

Not only was my heart torn between Good Luck and Pride, it wasn't too much later that I watched that craaaaazy Sleeping Forest, which just. Wow. Wow.

(Yeah, Kaname Jun tends to make all other points irrelevant in my book. XD)

I may have to watch this. KimuTaku is SO PRETTY, all day every day. And Kou's face is amazing indeed. :D

[identity profile] topazera.livejournal.com 2011-06-21 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
He IS so pretty! He is both SO PRETTY and SO CHARISMATIC imho which is an especially potent combination. :)

Yeahhhhh, I was watching this based on the two leads no matter what it was about. It could have been about sewage treatment workers and I would have been there. I LOVE BOTH THESE FACES. Shibasaki Kouuuuu!♥
